Cruising

The Oneida Lake Sailing Club has afternoon, evening and overnight cruises throughout the summer.

Afternoon and Evening cruises depart immediately following a brief meeting of participants at Callahan’s Marina picnic area at 1 pm.  This is only to take attendance and exchange contact information.  Previous destinations have included Sylvan Beach, Verona Beach State Park, Cleveland, Briggs Bay, Fisher Bay and various anchoring spots on Oneida Lake.

Overnight cruise destinations have included Cleveland, Briggs Bay and Fisher Bay and these may leave earlier or later depending on the destination and participants.

On a typical cruise, we will sail towards the destination on whatever course each captain desires and may sail side by side if conditions permit.  Each boat has it’s own crew, refreshments and snacks to consume along the way.  Upon reaching our destination we may eat at a local restaurant or raft the boats together and cook on the boats.  In the later case, the OLSC will provide the main course and each participant/couple will bring their own beverages and a dish to pass.  This provides a nice variety of food.  Cruisers will depart and sail back as their schedule requires on an individual boat basis.  Depending on the time of year, some cruisers will return after dark, providing both a beautiful sunset and starry night along with the challenges of entering the marina and docking your boat in the dark.

All OLSC members are invited to participate in any and all cruises, we always have sailboats looking for crew and/or riders.   Participation ranges from one boat with a small crew to 12 boats and over 35 people.
